Tatsuya Yasue presents a gift to World War II veteran Marvin Strombos family at Higashishirakawa Village, Gifu Prefecture, Japan, Aug. 15, 2017. Yasue and Strombo are reuniting for a flag return ceremony to give back the Yasue family an heirloom that belonged to their late brother Sadao Yasue. Tatsuya, along with other members of the family have waited over 70 years for the return of the brother they lost during the war. The ceremony provided both families with closure as they finally have a part of Sadao to bring home. The reunion was made possible by the Obon Society of Astoria, Oregon. The ceremony also took place during the Obon holiday in Japan, a holiday dedicated to going back to the place of origin of one’s family and spending time with one another.
