Sgt. Joseph Guarrieri conducts a buddy rush during a live fire training event Aug. 16, 2017 at the live fire range in Hokudaien, Japan, in support of Northern Viper 17. The service members assaulted the target by cover and maneuver and suppressed fire from Japanese tanks and U.S. light armored vehicles. The U.S. has a vested interest in a secure Pacific; Combined-joint exercises enhance regional cooperation between participating nations to collectively deter security threats. Guarrieri, a Lawrenceville, New Jersey native, is a squad leader with Alpha Co., 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment attached to 3rd Marine Division through the unit deployment program.
