(Aug. 4, 2017) Quartermaster 2nd Class John Gleason figures the distance from the pier aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) as the ship departs Naval Station Norfolk towards Newport News Shipyard. George Washington is undergoing a refueling and complex overhaul (RCOH) at Newport News Shipyard. RCOH is a four-year project performed once during an aircraft carrier’s life-cycle that includes refueling of the ship’s two nuclear reactors, repairs, upgrades and modernization.
