U.S. Army Command Sgt. Maj. Hector Marin, Research Development and Engineering Command, Army Materiel Command, discusses service members’ concerns over the mine resistant ambush protected all terrain vehicle at the Command Sergeant Major Sustainment and Equipping Conference at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, Feb. 14-18. While less protected than the heavily armored MRAPs, the M-ATV compensates with more agility and speed, enabling service members to cross extremely rugged terrain quickly and with a greater-degree of protection than what is provided by a high mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicle. More than 55 command sergeants major from Army Materiel Command, U.S. Army Headquarters, U.S. Central Command and combat units around Afghanistan attended the conference to discuss ways to equip service members and improve the equipment available to them.
