NEWPORT, R.I., (Aug. 17, 2017) Navy ROTC Midshipman 2nd Class Javier Espinoza, 20, from Lemoore, California, and an incoming junior at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, and a member of the Navy ROTC unit at the University of San Diego, looks through a Pelorus Sighting Telescope to fix a bearing point on a Full Mission Bridge during the 2017 Navy ROTC National Shiphandler of the Year competition at the Surface Warfare Officers School (SWOS), August 15. The three-day event consisted of using the Naval Seamanship & Shiphandling Conning Officer Virtual Environment (NSS COVE) simulators at SWOS and participating in several virtual reality conning and ship driving scenarios.
