A brass memorial plaque and final reef ball were placed in an area that has been named the Robert Benjamin Boren Memorial Reef, located in Chocolate Bayou, Placement Area 4A, Feb. 23. Boren, who passed away July 4, 2008, was a USACE Galveston District visionary responsible for advocating the use of the concrete reef balls for erosion control purposes (as an effective alternative to articulated concrete block revetment systems) and to help enhance marine ecosystems.
