An MV-22B Osprey tiltrotor aircraft takes off from the flight deck of the Royal Australian Navy’s HMAS Adelaide (L01), Sept. 7, 2017, marking the first time an Osprey has landed on the vessel. The Osprey belongs to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 (Reinforced), which makes up part of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit’s Aviation Combat Element. The Osprey is capable of taking off like a helicopter and flying like a fixed-wing aircraft, allowing it to travel faster and over greater distances than its predecessors. The 31st MEU, which recently participated in Exercise Talisman Saber alongside the Australian Defence Force, is conducting a regularly scheduled patrol of the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
