    U.S. Soldiers assigned to U.S. Army Pacific (USARPAC) and Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) present the colors of the United States and Japan during the Orient Shield 2017 opening ceremony at Camp Shin Yokotsuka, Sept. 11, 2017. Orient Shield is an annual, bilateral Brigade/Regimental tactical field training exercise with the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) and the U.S. Army. The exercise is designed to enhance U.S. and Japan combat readiness and interoperability at the tactical level while strengthening bilateral relationships and demonstrating U.S. resolve to support the security interests of friends and allies in the region.
