Airmen assigned to the 129th Rescue Squadron, California Air National Guard, conduct a mission planning briefing, Sept. 11, 2017, at Marathon International Airport located on Marathon Key, Florida. The special operations team deployed to Hurlburt Field Air Force Base in Florida ahead of Hurricane Irma’s arrival with plans to forward deploy in an effort to conduct search and rescue operations in in some of the state’s hardest hit communities, such as Marathon and other areas throughout the keys. The 129th Rescue Wing is just one of many National Guard units that responded to the call for assistance from the Florida National Guard and are working side-by-side with civil authorities as part of an integrated federal, state and local response to the storm.
