Naval Air Facility Misawa personnel gather around a television to watch news reports concerning the aftermath of an 8.9-magnitude earthquake that triggered a massive tsunami that impacted the eastern coast of Japan. This is the first time many of these Sailors have seen the impact of the earthquake and tsunami since the base lost power shortly after the quake commenced. Despite having limited capabilities, NAF Misawa is both recovering from the earthquake, while also coordinating efforts to assist within the local community and throughout Japan.
