SAN DIEGO (Sept. 15, 2017) -- Chief Yeoman Tiffany M. Tamez, assigned to USS Michael Monsoor (DDG 1001) presents Sally Monsoor with a chief shadow box in honor of her son, Medal of Honor recipient Special Operator 2nd Class (SEAL) Michael A. Monsoor, during a chief’s pinning ceremony on Mount Soledad. Michael A. Monsoor died in combat in 2006 and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. The second ship of the Zumwalt class of guided missile destroyers, USS Monsoor, was named in his honor and will serve as a multi-mission platform capable of operating as an integral part of naval, joint or combined maritime forces.
