Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Sgt. 1st Class Ryo Maeda and U.S. Navy UT2 Kody Basile and glue pipes together for a comfort room at C.J. Torre Elementary School in support of KAMANDAG in Casiguran, Aurora, Philippines, Sept. 19 2017. Bilateral exercises such as KAMANDAG increase the ability of the United States and the Philippines to rapidly respond and work together during real world terrorist or humanitarian crises, in order to accomplish the mission, support the local population and help mitigate human suffering. Maeda is an engineer with Central Readiness Regiment, and is native to Sendai City, Japan.
