A number of two-year-old gopher tortoises released back to the wild Sept. 20, 2017, mill around an active tortoise burrow at Camp Shelby. Some entered to make it their home, some began digging their own burrows and others wandered away. All 89 tortoises released through the Head-Start Program were tagged with trackers to monitor their progress and generate data for future releases. (U.S. Army photo by Staff Sgt. Scott Tynes)
