The plastic bracelet similar in shape as a watch and identification card were issue to refugees during their stay at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Sgt. 1st Class Luis E. Alfaro, now a U.S. citizen and the non-commissioned officer-in-charge for the Resource Management Office with the 36th Infantry Division, Austin, Texas, kept the bracelet as a reminder of his past life in Cuba before defecting in Aug. 19, 1994. The identification card depicts Alfaro's last name as Duran, which is his mother's last name. (Photo courtesy by Sgt. 1st Class Luis E. Alfaro)
