U.S. Army Sgt. David Calkins, a watercraft operator assigned to the 824th Transportation Company (Heavy Boat), raises the Jack—a common flag flown on the bow of American vessels—aboard the U.S. Army Landing Craft Utility 2031 New Orleans on Sept. 24, 2017. The crew of the vessel was called to action to perform an emergency deployment readiness exercise to support the Army Reserve’s mission to provide humanitarian aid to Puerto Rico and other areas affected by Hurricane Maria. The mariners responded swiftly to the call and readied their vessel for operations. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. Aaron Ellerman, 204th PAD)
