U.S. Army veteran Stefan Leroy, a former sergeant and member of Team U.S., makes his dive to compete in the men’s 50-meter freestyle during swimming preliminaries at the 2017 Invictus Games in the Pan Am Sports Centre in Toronto, Canada, Sept. 28, 2017. After losing both his legs to an improvised explosive device in 2012 while deployed in Afghanistan, Leroy spent two years learning to adapt to his prosthetics, drawing strength from friends and the other amputees at his medical treatment facility; competing in the Boston Marathon just 16 months after his last surgery in 2014.
