A 130 foot floating Ribbon Bridge from the Michigan National Guard, 1437th Multi-Role Bridge Company, was assembled in the waters of the Straits of Mackinac that run between the Upper and Lower Peninsulas of Michigan, Sept. 23, 2017, during an MING Emergency Management training exercise called Operation Shining Star. The bridge supported an ambulance and decontamination station belonging to the MING 51st Civil Support Team as they, along with other state and local EM participants, rehearsed a scenario involving the suspected contamination of a Shepler’s Ferry® boat (the largest people-mover across the Straits) with an unknown hazardous material of radiological origin.
