YON-287 is the 2nd barge of two supplied by the U.S. Navy at the request of the Government of Japan to aid in the cooling efforts. The two barges supplied a total of 1.89 million litres (500,000 gallons) of fresh water. This transfer will not involve the use of U.S. Navy personnel. The barge was delivered to Japan Maritime Self Defense Force multipurpose support ship JS Amakusa (AMS 4303) to transfer it north.
