A U.S. Reconnaissance Marine with the Maritime Raid Force, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, and a Philippine Marine fire the M249 squad automatic weapon during a live-fire range as part of exercise KAMANDAG at Fort Ramon Magsaysay, Philippines, October 6, 2017. Elements of the 31st MEU are currently supporting the 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade, participating in exercise KAMANDAG. Bilateral exercises such as KAMANDAG increase the ability of the United States and the Philippines to rapidly respond and work together during real world terrorist and humanitarian crises, in order to accomplish the mission, support the local population and help mitigate human suffering.
