Ed Wright, the former Wyoming Adjutant General, receives the lieutenant general flag from Wyoming Gov. Matt Mead, at a ceremony in Cheyenne, Wyo., April 1, 2001, marking his retirement from 36 years of military service. As a Wyoming National Guardsman, Mead was able to give the retiring major general a state promotion to lieutenant general. The adjutant general overseas the Wyoming Air and Army National Guard, the Wyoming STARBASE Academy, the Wyoming Youth ChalleNGe Program, the Wyoming Wing of the Civil Air Patrol, and the Wyoming Veterans Commission.
