U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Thomas Sharpy, Joint Forces Land Component Commander deputy commander in charge of air operations, talks to U.S. Army Specialist William Martell (left), information technology specialist, and U.S. Army Sergeant Edwin Gonzalez (right), multi-channel systems operator, both from B Company, 35th Expeditionary Signal Battalion, during his visit to Rafael Hernández Airport in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, Oct. 6, 2017. The 35th ESB soldiers were setting up a satellite dish to provide greater communication capability to the airfield. The 821st Contingency Response Group reopened the airfield soon after Hurricane Maria devastated the area and are operating it to allow for cargo and commodities to flow into the Western part of the Puerto Rico to support the relief and recovery effort. The Department of Defense is providing joint relief efforts to support the Federal Emergency Management Agency in helping those affected by Hurricane Maria to minimize suffering as part of the overall whole-of-government response efforts.
