Air Force Maj. Shannon O’Keefe, an oral maxillofacial surgeon, and Staff Sgt. Mary Medige, an oral surgery technician, both with the 99th Dental Squadron based out of Nellis Air Force Base, in Las Vegas, perform oral surgery on a Salvadoran during a dental readiness exercise as part of Beyond the Horizon 2011. Beyond the Horizon El Salvador is a 4-month-long civic assistance and training exercise that is offering free medical and dental clinics, helping build local Salvadoran infrastructure, giving U.S. service members valuable training and strengthening U.S.-Salvadoran relations.
