U.S. Marines stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Ariz., conduct a Combat Fitness Test (CFT) at the Memorial Sports Complex Oct. 11. Marines must conduct a CFT every year to ensure they are physically ready for combat situations. A CFT is composed of an 880-yard sprint, lifting an ammunition can overhead repeatedly for two minutes, and performing a timed event, the maneuver-under-fire, in which Marines conduct combat-related tasks. For female Marines between ages 17-20 to pass the CFT, she must get at least a 4:36 sprint time, 30 ammunition can lifts, and a 4:53 maneuver-under-fire time. For male Marines between ages 17-20 to pass the CFT, he must get at least a 3:45 sprint time, 62 ammunition can lifts, and a 3:17 maneuver-under-fire time. The requirements change for different age groups. The requirements to pass the CFT can be found at http://www.fitness.marines.mil/PFT-CFT_Standards17/ (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl.
