West Virginia National Guard Sgt. Zachary Mills, a cannon crewmember with 1st Battalion, 201st Field Artillery Regiment, received the Division of Natural Resources Meritorious Service Medal for his actions during the floods in June 2016. Mills and his partner, DNR Sgt. Chris Lester, are credited with saving the lives of over fourteen individuals. Mills is a law enforcement officer for the Department of Natural Resources as well as a member of their swift water rescue team as an assistant boat operator. (U.S. Army National Guard photo by Sgt.
