Tactical Air Control Party airmen from the Washington Air National Guard's 116th Air Support Operations Squadron trained in the field at Eielson Air Force Base and Fort Greely, Alaska alongside their active duty counterparts from Eielson as well as Osan Air Force Base, Korea during Red Flag Alaska, June 8-23. Personnel from other countries also participated.
"Red Flag Alaska incorporated a truly integrated joint multinational Air-Ground team,” said Lt. Col. Raed Gyekis, commander of the 116th ASOS. “We successfully leveraged Guard and Active USAF A10s, an Army Stryker Cavalry Squadron, live mortars, Army Apache gunships, Grey Eagle Army UAVs, Army Artillery and Air Force JSTARS staff, as well as foreign partner aircraft from Korea and JTACs from Belgium, Korea and Great Britain---all under the control of the 116th ASOS TACP team.”
