U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Jadon Valdez, a rifleman with 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance (LAR) Battalion, 1st Marine Division (MARDIV), provides security while on patrol during Exercise Southern Katipo 17 (SK17), at St. Arnaud, New Zealand, Oct. 26, 2017. Marines with 1st LAR were selected to participate in SK17, a bilateral training activity with the New Zealand Defense Force (NZDF) in order to enhance warfighting skill sets, improve mil-to-mil relationships and enhance U.S. Marine Corps-NZDF interoperability.
