Ricardo Mendoza, non-commissioned officer in charge for a 81 mm mortar system assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Advise and Assist Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, helps an Iraqi soldier align his mortar sight during a live fire exercise at Destiny Range, April 17, 2011. A native of Amarillo, Texas, Mendoza aided the Iraqi soldiers in their live fire exercise to help increase their proficiency on the mortar system. “We’re here to mostly observe and to ensure they [shoot the mortars] safely,” said Mendoza.
