171125-QG131-M-015 U.S. FIFTH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (Nov. 25, 2017) – An MV-22B Osprey assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 161 (Reinforced) with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit is prepared for takeoff from the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6). The Osprey is a joint service multirole combat aircraft utilizing tiltrotor technology to combine the vertical performance of a helicopter with the speed and range of a fixed-wing aircraft resulting in global reach capabilities that allow it to fill an operational niche unlike any other aircraft. The 15th MEU is embarked with the America Amphibious Ready Group and is deployed to maintain regional security in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Capt. Maida Zheng)
