Nicholson, the commanding general of III Marine Expeditionary Force, welcomes BLT 1/1 at Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Nov. 30, 2017. BLT 1/1, the Ground Combat Element of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, is structured around a conventional infantry battalion reinforced with Light-Armored Vehicles, an artillery battery, combat engineers and Assault Amphibious Vehicles. The 31st MEU provides a flexible force ready to perform a wide range of military operations, from limited combat to humanitarian assistance, throughout the Indo-Asia-Pacific region as the Marine Corps' only continuously forward-deployed MEU.
