A U.S. Marine Corps KC-130J Hercules aircraft with Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron (VMGR) 152, prepares to land during assault landing zone (ALZ) training as part of unit-level training called El Centro Horizon at Naval Air Facility El Centro, California, Dec. 8, 2017. ALZs involve landing on and taking off from austere sites in order to meet mission requirements where landing on dirt roads, or fields, within potentially hostile environments becomes a necessity. The exercise served as proficiency training for the pilots and aircrew involved by requiring them to operate in unimproved landing strips and on shorter runways than they are used to. El Centro Horizon provides VMGR-152 with more opportunities to increase squadron combat readiness through the diverse training ranges available in the area. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl.
