From the pier at Thule Air Base, Greenland, the Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, can be seen in the distance past an iceberg Dec. 11, 2017. With the base being so far north, viewers have to look south in order to see the northern lights. Thule is the most northern base United States military members are stationed at around the world, and is charged with the mission of missile warning, space surveillance and satellite command and control.
