WASHINGTON – Marines and Sailors of Chemical Biological Incident Response Force, CBIRF, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Command, assumed the ready working under Joint Task Force National Capitol Region, JTF-NCR, which provided military support to the lead agency the U.S. Secret Service during the 58th Presidential Inauguration in Washington D.C., Jan. 20, 2017. The Inauguration was designated a National Special Security Event, NSSE, by the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security on July 2016. When an event is designated an NSSE, the U.S. Secret Service assumes its mandated role as the lead federal agency for the design and implementation of the operational security plan. Although elements of CBIRF were staged near the U.S. Capitol building, other elements of CBIRF were on standby at CBIRF headquarters, making the Inauguration supported by the entire CBIRF unit.
