“I really didn’t know what I wanted to do, or know what I was getting into once I got to the boat [ship],” said Fernando. “I just knew I wanted to leave home and be a part of something bigger.” Like many before him, the Navy was an option for Fernando to figure out who he wanted to be. Even if it meant leaving loved ones behind.
