Operation Blue Roof is up-and-running, with nearly 26,000 installations completed as of Dec. 22, 2017. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers quality assurance specialist and mission supervisors, as well as more than 1,200 contractors, have overcome many obstacles to hit its stride and provide temporary emergency roofing for residents of Puerto Rico in the wake of hurricane Maria. In the initial days debris blocked the roads, rights-of-entry difficult to obtain and the sheer devastation of the storm limited the number of installs that could be completed. Recently, despite still navigating difficult terrain and nearly inaccessible areas, crews are installing 650 to 700 installations daily.
