U.S. 5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (Dec. 14, 2017) Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Alyssa Samelin, left, a native of Torrance, Calif., and Ensign Craig Borden, a native of Huntsville, Ala., render honors from the bow of the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship USS San Diego (LPD 22) as the ship passes the amphibious transport dock landing ship USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52) in the Gulf of Aqaba. San Diego, with the embarked 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of maritime security operations to reassure allies and partners and preserve the freedom of navigation and the free flow of commerce in the region.
