Vermont National Guard Maj. Dubois Thompson, the range operations officer for Detachment 1, Garrison Support Command, a graduate of Avon Old Farms High School in Avon, Connecticut and a Tunbridge, Vermont native, provided support to the Marines of 1st Battalion, 24th Marines, 4th Marine Division, during exercise Nordic Frost in Jericho, Vermont, Jan. 13-27, 2018. Thompson ensured the Marines were able to efficiently conduct operations so they could get the most out of their training and better their skills.
Reserve Marines with 24th Marines conducted cold weather training among the mountainous Vermont terrain at Camp Ethan Allen Training Site. The goal of Nordic Frost was to improve the unit’s environmental capabilities by giving them an introduction to cold weather training and testing their squad and fire team level defensive proficiency in an austere environment. This was a great opportunity for Marines to spend two weeks working together, battling the elements to ensure that they are ready to fight tonight and respond to the nation’s calls.
