Earth dams and sandbag barriers built along the Missouri River with assistance from National Guard soldiers. The barriers are constructed in an attempt to hold back the rising waters along the South Dakota-Iowa border. National Guard soldiers from South Dakota, Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota have been placed on state active duty to assist local and state authorities in western Iowa and southeast South Dakota to protect private properties and municipalities along the swollen Missouri River.
