Ciales, Puerto Rico, Feb. 3, 2018--When Aida Iturregui built her retirement home on the top of a mountain, she knew she had to build it strong enough to withstand a hurricane. She followed Best Practice Use of Connectors and Brackets in an effort to reduce loss of life and property by lessening the impact of a disaster. After Hurricanes Irma and Maria hit Puerto Rico in September of 2017, she was not sure if it had survived. When she was finally able to return, she found that the house had sustained only minimal damage. FEMA/K.C. Wilsey
