HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – A set of dog tags embossed with the phrase “No Religious Preference” represents the 49.5% of Massachusetts Army National Guardsmen who do not declare any particular faith or religion on their official record. Despite the growing number of nonreligious personnel, military chaplains still play an essential role in maintaining the morale and welfare of the organization.
