Cmdr. Vernon Stanfield, executive officer, raises the stabilizing arms from an M777A2 howitzer as Marines, assigned to Lima Battery from the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, standby to re-position it to a storage location on the flight deck aboard the amphibious dock landing ship USS Whidbey Island (LSD 41). The Whidbey Island is deployed as part of the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group, supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of responsibility.
