Midway Public Affairs Officer Joe Ciokon’s bomber jacket displays patches of units he has served under during his career in the United States Navy. All of the volunteers aboard the USS Midway display their patches proudly as they guide guests throughout the aircraft carrier. The USS Midway was America's longest-serving aircraft carrier of the 20th century, from 1945 to 1992. Approximately 200,000 Sailors served aboard the ship during its time in service. Known for several naval aviation breakthroughs as well as several humanitarian missions. It was the only carrier to serve the entire length of the Cold War and beyond. It is now berthed in San Diego and serves as a location for learning about United States Navy heritage. (U.S. Navy Photo by Mass Communication Specialist 3rd Class Omar Rubi)
