U.S. Army Reserve Sgt. Zachary Mills with the 372nd Quartermaster Battalion (Petroleum Support) stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico, poses for a picture with U.S. Air Force and Army Air Corps Chief Master Sgt. (Ret.) Paul Kerchum, a survivor of the original Bataan Death March, at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, March 25, 2018. Kerchum spent three and a half years as a prisoner of the Japanese Army during World War II. The Bataan Memorial Death March honors the U.S. service members and Filipino Soldiers that were forced marched 65 miles by the Japanese Army through the Philippine jungle in April of 1942. Events like this challenge a Soldier’s body and mind, while ensuring America’s Army Reserve units and Soldiers are trained and ready to deploy on short-notice and bring capable, combat-ready, and lethal firepower in support of the Army and our joint partners anywhere in the world.
