Sharon Pipes, the wife of retired U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Col. Kenneth Pipes, a Silver Star recipient, goes through a book of letters during a ceremony held by Maj. Gen. Eric M. Smith, the commanding general of 1st Marine Division, at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., March 29, 2018. Pipes received letters of inspiration from different generals across the Marine Corps for his actions while serving as the Commanding Officer of Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 26th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division during the Vietnam War.
