U.S. Coast Guard Reserve Petty Officer 1st Class Stephen DeMorat of the Redeployment Assistance and Inspection Detachment, Patrol Forces Southwest Asia, attached to the 831st Deployment and Distribution Support Battalion, measures the depth of a corroded dent in a shipping container, so it may be fixed before transporting hazardous material via sea at Camp Nathan Smith, Afghanistan, July 5. If hazardous cargo is not stored in sturdy containers, they can collapse under the weight of other containers stacked on top, with possibly deadly consequences.
