Maj. Thomas Vece, deputy team chief with the 1st Advise and Assist Task Force, Provincial Police Transition Team, sits with Verne Speirs, an assistant U.S. attorney and provincial rule of law section chief, and Gamand Awad, director of the criminal evidence unit, about the progress and capabilities of the CEU's forensics labratory in Kirkuk City, Kirkuk province, Iraq, July 5, 2011. Following their meeting, Awad introduced all of the evidentiary processing equipment to provincial judges whose job it is to make convictions, determining innocence or guilt, based upon the evidence collected for a given crime; a better understanding of how forensics investigators and their equipment operate will give these judges better insight to make a more educated ruling on their cases.
