Chris Deckard, right, a senior scientist at Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Pacific encourages a young SeaPerch navigator as he pilots the miniature Remotely Operated Vehicle in a display pool at the 14th Annual International RoboSub Competition held at SSC Pacific. SeaPerch, sponsored by the Office of Naval Research, is an innovative underwater robotics program that trains teachers to teach their late elementary and middle school students how to build ROVs from low-cost kits. As the Navy's Information Dominance Systems Command, SPAWAR supports robotics development and strongly encourages all students to explore careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields.
