While Australian and U.S. ships, aircraft and mortar platoons were busy honing their fire power skills on Townshend Island, a team from the U.S. Navy Shock Trauma Platoon, 3rd Medical Battalion, were practicing their skills in managing and treating trauma injury and mass casualty management. The team, consisting of an anesthesiologist and four hospital corpsmen have traveled from Okinawa, Japan. They are participating in Talisman Sabre 2011 and deployed to the Shoalwater Bay Training Area to ensure the medical well being of all personnel participating in the joint live fire exercise. The precision and expertise of all personnel participating in the exercise ensured that there were no injuries sustained during the week, so the trauma team were able to conduct training in advanced trauma life support. TS11 is a U.S.-led, Australian-supported bilateral exercise that is aimed at training U.S. and Australian forces in planning and conducting combined operations and improving U.S.-Australian interoperability.
