Dr. Debra Fort, principal, Irving Elementary School, expresses her thanks to Maj. Gen. Merdith "Bo" Temple, acting commanding general and chief of engineers, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, for the hard work the Corps has been doing in Joplin, Mo., as they tour the school campus July 19, as Jon Gornick, debris mission manager, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers listens. Irving School was destroyed by the EF-5 tornado that tore through the city May 22, and is being rebuilt on the former site of Washington Elementary school with modular units that include classrooms, kitchen facilities, labs, restrooms and all the infrastructure needed to support the school. Irving School at Washington is 65 percent complete and progress is made every day so that it will be open when school begins Aug. 17.
