Nancy Clay, left, presents Nonie Rispin, founder of Designated Driver of Colorado Springs, a certificate of appreciation in McMahon Auditorium July 15, for completing 10,000 rides for impaired drivers. Rispin, who started her nonprofit organization in January 2009, said most of her volunteer drivers are off-duty Fort Carson soldiers and 70 percent of her passengers are military. Clay had just finished a presentation that discussed the difficulties of losing her son to a drunken driver.
