    U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class David Thomas, from Honolulu, an instructor with Asian Pacific Counter Improvised Explosive Device Fusion Center, briefs soldiers assigned to 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, from Joint Base Lewis-McCord, Wash., on the signs to look for while in the field that will help soldiers identify IEDs at Shoalwater Training Area July 14, 2011, during Talisman Sabre 2011. The training course was designed to familiarize soldiers with the devices and components used against military personnel in the global war on terrorism. Talisman Sabre promotes the alliance with Australia, which is one of the United States' most important defense relationships and a central pillar for national security strategy, based on shared values and a common commitment to peace and security.
